Dr. Karen Nishida profiled in The Greenwich Times
She hadn’t even told her children about the cancer, hardening and thickening her uterus and threatening to sink its teeth into surrounding organs.
So she was alone as she was wheeled into the operating room at Greenwich Hospital this week to meet her surgical team.A doctor that she knew and trusted, gynecological oncologist Dr. Karen Nishida, would make her incisions and close them.
And in between, a robot called the da Vinci Xi would aid in the removal of her most intimate and womanly of organs: her womb.
“Well, hi!” she said to the human members of the team, hands clasped together, determined to remain upbeat, from her wheeled bed.
The patient asked for her name to be concealed — she didn’t want her friends to know about her hysterectomy.
